An invitation for your senses
Length: 18 km
The vines and vineyards on the sunny south slopes of the Main and Wickerbach valleys have characterised the landscape and culture along the Lower Main since the Middle Ages. The harmonious coexistence of tradition and the modern lifestyle is scarcely found in any other European wine-growing region.
Welcome to the Upper Rheingau Wine Experience Trail! Join us on a self-guided walk through the vineyards in this exciting landscape and discover the history of this region. Learn all about the Celts and the Romans, about colourful characters such as Gutenberg, Napoleon or Queen Victoria, the first mention of the Riesling grape, lignite mining along the River Main or about Snail Limestone.
And of course the Wine-growing Region Upper Rheingau would like to present itself within the cultural region Rheingau.
The Wine Experience Trail
passes through the parishes of Massenheim, Wicker, Flörsheim, Hochheim and Kostheim. Although these wine-growing communities are located along the rivers Main and Wickerbach, they are traditionally part of the Hessian wine-growing region Rheingau. The name of this trail reflects this situation.
The main trail is 18 km long and takes you to the best viewpoints and most interesting sites in this landscape. You are now at the railway tasting barrell.
There are also circular routes, which will allow you to explore various sections of the trail.
